Sun shade louvers are the horizontal metal blades that band a facade to shade the glass. This clip shows the drone working the louvers on Belmont Village in Coral Gables.

How louvers get dirty, and what that means for the glass
Each blade gets dirty in two ways. The top face collects grit, dust and salt that rain never fully washes off. The underside stays in shade and holds moisture, so a film of growth builds up on it. On a South Florida high-rise both happen quickly, and dark streaks run from the blades down onto the glass below.
Metal finishes need care too. Too much pressure or the wrong solution can dull a painted finish, so the blades get the same low-pressure soft wash as the rest of the facade. The purified-water rinse then runs down across the glass beneath them, so the streaks they caused go with it.
If your building has sun shades, fins or brise-soleil, they are often what makes other quotes long or expensive. Ask for them to be priced as part of the facade, and ask how the contractor will reach the underside of each blade.

Louvers are slow work by hand, since a rope tech has to reach over and under every blade. From the air both faces are reachable in one vertical pass, which is where most of the schedule saving on this facade came from.
About this project
This footage was filmed at Belmont Village Coral Gables, an occupied senior-living high-rise. Vista Drone Cleaning cleaned more than 130,000 square feet of exterior (facade, windows, floor surfaces and the parapet) at $0.20 per square foot, all in, in seven days, with no scaffolding, swing stages, rope access or lifts and no closures.
